Popili: a new chapter for the Coco Platform

To celebrate Cocotec’s fifth anniversary, we have some exciting news. The Coco Platform has a new name – Popili.

The original name was only ever intended to be a placeholder for our toolset – as it has grown into a successful commercial product, we wanted to make sure it had its own identity. Coco will remain as the name of our programming language. All things related to the Coco language, including the .coco file extension, will stay the same. We’re even launching a new Coco logo.

Popili makes things clearer

Over the last five years, Coco and the Coco Platform have become more popular. The similarity of the names – combined with our company name, Cocotec – has led to some confusion. Renaming the Coco Platform as Popili will help make things clearer.

Popili builds on what we’ve achieved

Our language and platform have successfully evolved since their humble beginnings as a collection of ideas in our Oxford research group. Now they are commercial products that are being deployed widely in the industry, it makes sense they can be easily distinguished. Popili shows that our toolset is a fully-fledged product in its own right.

Popili is just the beginning

Although Coco will always sit at the heart of our toolset, we have lots of exciting innovations in store. Popili marks the first step in this journey, as we look to expand our capabilities. Keep your eyes peeled for what comes next!
